Editor's Note

“DO WHAT YOU LOVE”

editor's note SusanA  new email friend of mine includes this sentiment at the end of each and every one of her correspondences. I find these words inspirational and very apropos for a February message to share with you.

With Valentine’s Day upon us, we’ve indulged in many ways throughout our issue with variations on a theme of  “Do what you love.” I love gardening, the feel of freshly tilled dirt and the smell of fragrant flowers. My nod to our focus of the month is with “Editor’s Picks” on beautiful vases — for yesterday, today and tomorrow, to borrow the name of an amazing plant I adore. Our monthly gardening column always speaks to this infatuation, thanks to the kind folks at The Arbor Gate.

Second houses and getaways bring families together for special occasions. Our look at a Tiki Island, Hurricane-Ike survivor shows a special love for saving another place to call home. The beautiful beach compound is just part of our informative special section on second homes and real estate.

An award-winning interior designer covers the color spectrum for a client with a passion for a vibrant yet spiritual homee. Another house in Riverside Terrace tells of the embrace of a father-daughter team to save historic structures throughout our city.

And who doesn’t love a bargain? “Deal Hunter” and “Affordable Art” will strike a chord with everyone looking for great purchases at great prices.

Love to swim? Love to cook? Love to do both? We have you covered, with helpful advice on installing or upgrading a backyard pool and rodeo-inspired chili recipes to boot.
“Do what you love” … and cheers,

Barbara
